Bodyweight training (part 1)

One of the main reasons I wanted to create my own training studio was to have a space where I could train clients 1-2-1 and incorporate the types of training that I’m passionate about - like bodyweight training.

There are many advantages to training using your own bodyweight and I’ve always incorporated elements of it into my clients’ training (like tricep dips, push-ups etc), but as a PT who trained at peoples’ houses or virtually, I was always restricted by equipment.

By Spring 2021 (post covid lockdown) I had a training studio that had everything I needed for proper bodyweight training and I started incorporating serious bodyweight training into my clients’ training. The results have been significant - I’ve seen a big difference in my clients’ (and my own) strength and muscle definition.

Being able to lift, control and move your body requires considerable strength and is a completely different way of exercising; I’ve also found it a much more rewarding but trickier way to train people.

I’ve included a video below from one of the training sessions with my gymnastics/calisthenics client Seb to illustrate the type of training we do. Seb performs bodyweight exercises at the more advanced end of things but the principles are the same regardless of strength or experience.
