Rings training

As regular followers of my blog/social posts may have detected, I’m a big fan of gymnastic rings training. The rings are hard to use, but once you’ve mastered the techniques of a few introductory exercises, you can develop upper body and core strength and definition in a way that very few types of training can achieve (there’s a reason why gymnasts have such amazing physiques).

Rings training plays a part in most of my clients’ training - from clients who are new to training through to clients with advanced-level skills. However, I’ve realised that very few people have actually know how to use gym rings (other than the seemingly impossible exercises performed during the Olympics)…

…so I’m going to do a short series of posts (with videos) showing how to use the rings - from routines for beginners through to more advanced techniques.

A note on purchasing rings:

I have used various gymnastic rings and straps. Good quality wooden rings don’t cost much but I have found it’s worth investing in a decent set of wooden rings - I use rings from Gravity Fitness. I own 28mm and 32mm grip size but I find 32mm grip is easier on the wrists. The strap and clasp is also better than cheaper ones that I have bought in the past.
